Hello Community ❤︎

FARM NEWS (6 Notes)

#1 - IT'S THE HARROP HARVEST FESTIVAL!
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 21 FROM 10-3
We are so excited to once again be part of the Harrop Harvest Festival this year. In 2023 we were vendors here for the first time and it really was the moment we fell head over heels for this community. We are looking forward to seeing you all there and will be working our tushies off to fill our table with all the goodies we possibly can!

#2 - CHICKEN NEWS
I know you've all missed our over-sharing of what we've got going on with our chickens. So here we go again! On Monday our trusty Site Manager, Rich is headed to Salmon Arm to pickup our new flock of birds. We are beyond grateful to Mike at Lakeland Feeds who not only provides us and all of our feed customers with the highest quality feed we've ever seen... but who is also our chicken guru and support. He has kindly assisted us in getting a fall delivery of Point of Lay Hens so that we can get back on track with our egg production. We have no words to adequately thank him for going out of his way to help us get hens to the Kootenays in late September. Thank You Lakeland Feeds!

What does this mean for our egg supply?
With the arrival of the birds early next week we expect to be back into small-egg production very soon. We will begin by offering small eggs at a reduced price and will increase to regular pricing as they size up to Medium-Large eggs. I know we cannot wait to get back to our farm fresh eggs in our household, and I'm sure you're all feeling the same. There really isnt anything quite like it.

#3 - NEW BREAD SHAPE
I was able to score some loaf pans the other week and have been experimenting with baking our favourite breads in this more utilitarian shape. We have a selection of frozen Simple Sourdough loaves in this shape in the freezer right now and I'll have a selection of different flavours on offer this week at the market. Currently, our limiting factor for bread production is the number of proofing baskets we have, so this opens up another 18 spots in the lineup for our weekly production. If you picked up one of these sandwich loaves last week at the market and have any feedback, please let us know.

#4 - DO YOU LIKE CELERY?
Are you a person who likes celery? We are going to be bringing a whole bunch of it to the Harrop Harvest Fest. We will be cutting a lot of our celery hearts out of the field this week. This celery is absolutely delicious. Big, juicy stalks and a full fresh flavour that really doesn't compare to regular store-bought-out-of-season-stalks. We suggest you give it a try ... and if you already know you like it, talk to us about getting a larger bundle of it to freeze for the season.

#5 - HOW ABOUT APPLES?
We have some truly delicious apples coming out of the orchard this week. We have had them on offer in the farm stand for awhile now, but this week we need to clear the trees. If you've enjoyed these and would like some bulk pricing, please let me know. They have the crunch and juiciness of a honey crisp but not quite as sweet. We aren't sure what kind they are... and we're not all that into specifics... but they're delicious and great fresh eating.

#5 - CANNING TOMATOES?
We have a box or two of canning tomatoes coming up. It will be a mixed box of different canning varieties and could do them in 10 or 20lb boxes. Let us know if you're interested.
