FARM NEWS

WHAT'S GOING ON THIS WEEK?

We're getting into it! This week we will start our weekly baking for Friday Afternoons. We will be stocking the farm stand with all of your favourite loaves. There will be simple, seedy whole wheat, cheese and garlic, cinnamon raisin and kalamata olive. We are also going to do a small round of rye + caraway seed (because I like it) and maybe even some focaccia! We will do bagels in all the seedy varieties we can muster along with cinnamon raisin and cheese.

These will all be stocked fresh by 2pm on Friday. We will bag them up and leave them out for folks to purchase through Saturday before we slice and freeze whats left to stock the freezers.

We have just added some Candied Plums and Spiced Candied Plums to the stand today. These are prune plums from our trees that we've steeped in sugar (and some in spice) and then dehydrated. The result is a sticky, chewy, sweet and sour delight! We are very pleased with how the spiced ones turned out and we will be storing some of those to have on offer during the holiday season.

From the garden this week we are still rolling in peppers, tomatoes, gorgeous chard, rutabaga, sweet carrots and beets, loads of cabbage in green and red, onions, radishes, turnips and more! We are also stocking asian pears!

There are some gorgeous Delicata Squash from Understory farms out for sale right now. We've pulled half our squash crop out to cure and this week we will grab all the Butternuts out of the field and get them cured and stored away so we can all roll in squash into the winter.

We've got a nice variety of storage radishes coming in as well. Black radishes, watermelon radishes and Daikon. We should be stocking these out in the next week or so. Keep an eye out for something new.

That is all I've got today. Look forward to seeing some of you at the stand this weekend.
