FARM NEWS (6 Notes)
#1 - EGGS AVAILABLE BY DELIVERY WITH CONFLUENCE FARMS
Our new neighbours and community members, Emily and Nathan, who run Confluence Farms have taken our eggs on board and are offering them for sale as part of their online delivery program! If you know anyone who has been wanting access to our eggs but lives too far away, this might be a great option. Emily and Nathan run a very cool operation. They bring together a variety of local growers and producers products and offer them on their website for home-delivery, right to your door. They are installing a large market garden where they will be growing a lot of lovely produce, flowers, and more during the growing season to offer for delivery as well. We look forward to working with them to see how we can bolster one another on our quests for local food security.
As a reminder our egg offerings are as follows at the farm stand.
- Medium Eggs - $8 dozen
- Large + XL Eggs - $9 dozen
- Egg Flat (2.5 dozen Medium Eggs - $18.75
If you're buying a flat, please bring your own cartons and leave us the flat.
Eggs for donation - we continue to have a bit of a surplus, please reach out if you know of anyone who would benefit from some egg donations of some of our smaller eggs. We will be continuing to drop off any excess to local food hubs.
Eggs at 4 Mile - If you have friends in town who have been looking for some farm fresh eggs, we also sell these out of a fridge at 4 mile, just outside of Nelson. If you know anyone interested in picking up closer to town, please have them reach out.

#5 - Whole Chicken Review
In a previous note I had said that the chickens in the farm stand were Mistral Gris. They are not, they are Western Rustic. Our next batch from Spencer at Quantum Farm will be Mistral Gris and they will have to be at a slightly higher price point due do their slower growth rate and additional feed needs. We've been enjoying the variety of whole chickens and we have not been let down, they are all very good and make some of the best broth I've ever had. As far as locally, pasture raised meat goes, we are offering these at a good price comparatively.
I've been chatting with a handful of other farmers who do micro greens and am working on nailing down pricing, quantities and blends that are both efficient and delicious. Some of these greens are very spicy, strong and delicious in flavour. Some of them grow quickly to a good weight, others slowly to a light weight. This makes pricing and blending them a learning curve that we are all on together, so please let us know what you like, what you don't like, and anything in between. We love to hear it. We have really been enjoying the fresh greens (no matter how small) to dress up or fill out our meals. Its a real treat and an endeavour we are committed to getting right and growing.
