Hello Community ❤︎

FARM NEWS (3 notes)

#1 - It's Almost Market Time!

Market season is comin' in hot! (but not too hot... lets stay cool, and damp, for as long as possible. Please and Thank You).

The Sunshine Bay Community Market will be kicking off on June 16th! We are so excited to be part of this evolution of our local market. The market's new location at Sunshine Bay has such wonderful potential and we can't wait for our first season of consistent vending.

What does this mean for our Farm Stand?
Once the market kicks off, we will swap our baking days and begin baking Sunday mornings to sell at the market. We will increase our number of loaves as needed to suit the demand.
Our farm stand will continue to be open daily and stocked with eggs, prepared food and fresh fruit and veggies as they come ready. So you are still welcome to come by anytime to see what we've got in store.

Seeking Input - Would you like to see us open the farm stand for a weekday bake in addition to our Sunday markets? Would Wednesdays be a good day? If you could reply to this note and let us know what you'd like to see, we will do our best to accommodate.

#2 - We're Making Changes
The farm stand is a little chaotic at the moment as we move through some upgrades. So please don't mind the mess. We will do our best to be sure its still easy enough for you to find what you're looking for!

#3 - Job Opportunity
We need some more help on the farm! We are seeking an experienced individual who would be interested in helping us prepare food and bake with us 2 days per week. This person needs to be available on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The job includes mixing bread, baking, harvesting, preserving, packaging and more! We are seeking someone with kitchen experience who loves food, is confident with food safety and inspired by our local food security movement. Please reach out with any leads or for further questions.

THIS SATURDAY MAY 25

We will have the following items stocked in our farm stand.

  • Simple Sourdough - $10/loaf
  • Cinnamon Raisin Sourdough with cranberries and a hint of orange - $11/loaf
  • Cheese and Garlic Sourdough - $12/loaf
  • Sourdough Bagels - Simple with Seeds and Cinnamon Raisin - $2/bagel
  • Merlot Napa Cabbage - Red Napa - $10/kg
  • Asparagus - $5/Bunch
  • Iceberg Lettuce Heads (my favourite) - $12/kg
  • Loose romaine and lettuce bags - $12/kg
  • Green Chard and Beet Green Bunches - $4/bunch
  • Raw Rhubarb - 7$/kg
  • Rhubarb Syrup - $5 + $2 Jar Deposit / 1 Pint - Add this to your sparkling water or cocktails. Add some Apple Cider Vinegar to make a Shrub or dress it up with some mint, cold water and lemon for some nice lemonade.
  • Rhubarb Concentrate - $9 + $2 Jar Deposit / 1 Pint - This is concentrated rhubarb juice. It has the same acidity of lemon or vinegar and makes a wonderful substitute for salad dressings! You can also add to water with some simple syrup and mint for a zippy rhubarb-aid!
  • Candied Rhubarb - $7/bag - Careful, its addictive. Made with rhubarb and sugar this treat is crunchy, chewy and our preference to any kind of sour candy you can buy in a store.
  • Sourdough Crackers - $5/Bag
  • Frozen Sourdough Waffles - $6/bag of 6
  • Spinach, Egg, Feta and Potato Pies (frozen) - $12/pie
  • EGGS - $7 / doz

These will be stocked at our Farm Stand Cabin beginning at 10am.

FYI - Our farm stand is open everyday. If you want to pop in for any of the long-lasting products like eggs, frozen items, granola, crackers, etc. These are always available. Throughout the season, veggies will also be stocked as they come ready and fresh. Saturday morning is when we do our Farm Stand Day with all the fresh baking.
LOCATION
Head to www.growwild.com/map/ to see a map!
Our address is 655 Ferguson Rd. As you drive down the driveway you will pass some old stables. Just beyond the stables is an open area you can park in. Our Farm Stand Cabin is located on the right (north side). You will need to head down the pathway and continue around to the front of the building and enter the cabin off the front deck.
Friendly reminder, things are still a little rough around the edges. Please bare with us as we refurbish and get our little stand in shape!

FEEDBACK
We love feedback! These Farm Stand Days are our opportunity to try new things and see how they are received and enjoyed (or not) by our community. Please feel free to reach out and let us know what you think of any of the products we have on offer.

PAYMENT
Payment is through the honour system. We will have a cash box on the table. If you do not have cash you can e-transfer to emshaking@gmail.com. All proceeds from our sales go back into the farm.

Take care everyone.
